See it loom before us,
this wheeled behemoth
omnipresent on our roads
and in our cities,
rotating on its mount,
charging forward, then
idling, like a bull,
pouring itself
into new life.
I speak, of course,
of the redi-mix
concrete truck.
A pump can be
attached to it,
like the snorkel of
a fire-truck, and
seen sending its fluid rock
to the top of any skyscraper.
Watch it weave its way
among crowds,
back-squeeze its hulk
through forbidding slots,
pound through
the countryside
like the pony express
to dispense its
short-life payload,
eagerly awaited—
the dandy driver and
worker reunion.
