What you thought was, wasn’t.
What you think is, isn’t.
It’s like putting out
a new idea, but the last
words won’t come
and your listener
completes it for you.
Yes, Yes, you exclaim.
Until you arrive you can’t know
the “that’s it,” and perhaps
not then either since the arrival,
chidingly so, is a new beginning.
Change a person’s expectations,
we say, and you can change them.
Well, yes again, just so . . .
Expectations have kept me
from seeing what’s there.
What I thought was, wasn’t
and I’m new eyes ready.
