We know each other,
not really well.
I come to your office.
Before I sit down,
you ask if I’d like coffee.
I say yes.
We go to the alcove
together and fill up.
When we return
there’s the agenda—
we know that—
but there’s more.
You ask me
what I’m thinking.
I take the time to tell you.
I ask you
what you’re thinking.
You take the time to tell me.
We don’t fully agree,
but it doesn’t matter.
Who knew
it could be so simple?
